Track savings for individual items
When you add to your savings account, Tiller makes it possible to allocate the funds towards specific goals. That way, your intentions won't get lost.
Spend on what matters most to you
As your priorities change, you can reallocate your money to reflect what is most important to you. It's helping you to become more resourceful.
How it works

Step 1: Identify your savings account
To get the most out of this app, you will need a basic savings account to track. Ideally, this would be with your primary bank, or anywhere you find it easy to transfer money and check your balance. However, it needs to be a standalone account, separate from your everyday spending. We will refer to this as your dedicated savings account. You are welcome to use an existing account, or create a new one.

Step 2: Update your total balance in Tiller
Now it's time to create your Tiller profile. Open the Web App, click the 'Sign up' button and enter your details.
Next you will see the home screen, where you will see three boxes: blue, yellow and red. Firstly we need to update the blue box, which relates to the total balance of your dedicated savings account.
Click the Update button, and input the current total balance of your account.
We have plans to automate this step, but until then - please don't forget to come back click 'Update' as you transfer money in and out of the account.

Step 3: Add items, and allocate money
Next it's time to update the yellow box, which relates to individual items or anything specific you would like to save up for. For instance, if you were saving towards a holiday, you can add this here.
Click the + icon within the yellow box to add a new item. You can add as many items as you like.
Once created, click on the item to allocate some of your total balance (from the blue box) towards achieving this goal.

Step 4: Fast track your goals with the Redirect button
Finally we have the red section, and this is where things get interesting..
Now that you are tracking each of your savings goals, you may find some opportunities for saving some additional money. For instance, let's say you had planned to go out for dinner with a friend, but the restaurant unexpectedly cancelled on you. Instead, you and your friend decide to catch up over a home-cooked meal instead. Well, this has resulted in some surprise savings, which we can capture using the Redirect button.
The Redirect Button is designed to do two things:
1. Add new savings to your total balance (in the blue section), and
2. Allocate this amount towards a particular item (in the yellow section)
With this button in your pocket, we you will be able to immediately capture any savings opportunities , as well as make some good in-the-moment decisions with your money. We hope it will help you pause to think about the tradeoffs between spending for instant gratification, and making progress towards the other things you may care more about.

Step 5: A few more features
Finally, we wanted to let you know about a couple of things we thought you might find helpful:
Active vs Inactive items: Let's face it, there are probably dozens of things you could spend money on right now. In order to make it easy to capture all of your good item ideas, but without cluttering up your dashboard, we have created an Active switch within the item edit page. Now you can click "View Active" or "View All" within the yellow box to toggle between your focus items list and everything else.
Purchases: Once you have saved enough for your item, you can transfer money back out of your account to make your purchase. Congratulations! You can capture this achievement by clicking the 'Purchase Made' button within the Edit Item screen. After you submit the purchase, this item will be moved to the Purchases Screen, which is accessed through the App menu.
Repeat Item: When you make a purchase, you will be asked if you would like to repeat the option. This will create an identical option, and any surplus funds from the initial item will be rolled over to the new item. You can use this feature to capture some of recurring items in your finances.
Lastly, we very much want you to make this app your own. There are many different ways to use this tool, so please feel free to use it in a way that serves you, and motivates you best.
We just want to help you on your way to being a little bit smarter with your financial resources, so you can achieve more of the things that matter to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Beta testing?
Right now we are in a Beta testing phase, which means we have released a basic version of the app with the primary intention of making it more robust and getting some initial feedback on the different ways people like (or don’t like) to use the app.
It’s likely that there are still a few bugs in the code, and we appreciate your patience as we find and fix all of them.
One of the upsides of being in this phase, is that it’s relatively easy to add new features. If you have any ideas on how to make the app better and more useful to you, we’d love to hear from you!
Will you make some apps for iOS and Android phones?
Yes! We are also keen to make Tiller more compatible with your phone. We are looking to add Tiller to both the App Store and Google Play in 2021.
Can you automate the balance updates and transfers?
We also think it would be a great to be able to all balance updates and transfers within the Tiller app. What’s more, we believe this will be possible with Open Banking, and will be something we explore in 2021. Watch this space!
What is Thunkable?
Thunkable is the engine room behind the Tiller app. It is a #nocode platform, which makes it very convenient to build and manage an app which is being distributed across iOS, Android and the web.
Is my data private?
Absolutely!
We are currently in the process of constructing a data privacy policy during the Beta testing phase. In the meantime, we’d like to assure you that your data is secure, and is not being shared with any third parties.
Also, if you would like to request a copy of your data, or to make amendments to you data, please send us an email.
Can I save the web app to the home screen on my phone?
Yes, most phone devices allows you to save websites as an icon on your home screen for fast access. Check out the ‘share’ or ‘options’ menu within your browser.
Ideally, it would be best to save the link to tiller.co.uk/webbapp, as it will always redirect to the latest link within the thunkable domain, and so you will always get the latest version. Hint: aeroplane mode can make it easier to save this URL.
